Maintenance

Proper maintenance is key to the safety, performance and longevity of your vessel. Maintenance done correctly will actually decrease the cost of owning and operating your boat. There are nuances to maintenance that are often overlooked. Let us help you with your annual maintenance and increase your on the water enjoyment.

BOTTOM Protection and painting

Let's admit it. Stuff grows in the water - and it grow on things IN the water. Logic tells us that growth on the bottom of vessel creates resistance, slowing it down, decreasing performance and increasing fuel consumption. Growth also causes deterioration overtime of the surface. Those are live organism after all. On an annual basis we recommend sanding, priming if necessary and applying an anti-fouling bottom paint. Doing this on an annual basis makes it an easy annual task -- especially if we do it for you!

soda blasting

In some cases you might need the bottom of your boat sodablasted prior to sanding and painting. Years of application of bottom paint, age or neglect can cause build-up, chipping, bubbling or other issues. We can provide sodablasting services to get you started right and ensure your investment and ongoing maintenance is of value.

Gelcoat buffing

You'll read on our restoration page about our gelcoat restoration process for when your vessel is looking very faded, chalky or just tired. After a gelcoat restoration, for newer boats or those in better condition an annual gelcoat maintenance may be all you need. We use the best 3M buffing compounds and techniques learned with decades of practice to restore the luster year after year quickly and affordably. The series of photos of the Red Nordic Tug below show two seasons. The one on the left shows a test spot prior to full gelcoat restoration in 2016, the middle is post restoration 2016 and the right is after annual maintenance in 2017. Just like new!

PropSpeed application

Above is an application of Prop Speed. Propspeed is a foul release coating system designed and proven to prevent marine growth from bonding to metal surfaces below the water line. The Propspeed system is made up of a two component etching primer, which bonds to the metal substrate and a clear coat, which provides an ultra-smooth outer layer. Combined they provide an integrated foul release system that stays firmly adhered to the props and running gear, dramatically reducing the ability for fouling to occur. This makes the Propspeed System one of the most effective and longest lasting propeller and running gear coating systems available on the market today. The benefits include increased speed and performance, decreased fuel consumption and it's also environmentally friendly as it contains no biocides, copper or tin. It works because it’s slick, not because it’s toxic.
